ITUMA AS A PARTNER IN THE PICANT-BOS RESEARCH PROJECT
Hilden, 19/02/2025
ituma is a partner in the PICANT-BOS research project, which focuses on private ad-hoc networks based on 5G and Wi-Fi for emergency use by public authorities and organisations with security responsibilities, and is being carried out in collaboration with numerous partners (see diagram).
As part of the PICANT-BOS project, innovative ad-hoc communication networks are being designed, implemented and tested in operational scenarios for public safety agencies and organisations; these networks combine 5G, Wi-Fi and existing TETRA infrastructure operating on LLS frequencies. The aim is to establish robust, highly available and interoperable networks that securely connect different emergency services and reliably support voice, video and data communication. The focus is on dynamic network provision under real-world operational conditions and seamless integration into control centre and operational systems.
To this end, ituma is implementing a scalable ad hoc network for mobile emergency vehicles. The prototype developed by ituma combines cross-technology networking techniques for shared use by different emergency services during emergency operations. aduno® is used to simplify operation during emergencies, to monitor the system and to increase operational stability.
Resilience to network failures, rapid scalability in large-scale incidents, and secure, prioritised data transmission are the focus of the PICANT-BOS project. The combination of licensed and licence-free frequency bands creates transparency with a flexible overall system for demanding and practical operational scenarios.
